Spirulina and its Chromophore Phycocyanobilin have Potential for Alleviation of Asthma

Oxidative stress produced by the enzyme complex NADPH oxidase to play multiple roles in the pathogenesis of asthma. It is therefore reasonable to suspect that phycocyanobilin, a key phytonutrient in spirulina capable of inhibiting NADPH oxidase activity, may have considerable potential for controlling this syndrome.
